Working group on Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines

This project aims to provide a consensus statement on specific prescribing competencies to be taught and assessed within the scope and context of podiatry courses in Australia.

The National Prescribing Competencies Framework describes the standard competencies that health professionals must demonstrate in order to prescribe medicines safely and effectively. However, work has not yet been undertaken to contextualise this framework and describe how it is achieved within the Podiatry scope of practice.

Establishing professional consensus will provide essential guidance for course teams working towards embedding Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines in course and curriculum design within Podiatry programs across Australia.

This project working group was awarded funding via the 2023 Australian Podiatry Education and Research Foundation (APERF) competitive grant round, with funds made available from the Australasian Council of Podiatry Deans (ACPD). Project outcomes are expected towards the end of 2025.
