The ACPD acknowledges the role of podiatry education programs in ensuring graduates are capable of providing effective and culturally safe care. The aim of the ACPD Cultural Safety Working Group is to develop a framework to support universities to embed cultural safety and Indigenous perspectives into podiatry programs. We recognise and acknowledge the need to ensure the framework is flexible, with scope to adapt to different universities and Communities.
The framework should:
i) address staff training, assessment of cultural safety, and effective integration of cultural safety into curricula,
ii) supplement program enrichment that occurs through meaningful relationships with Elders, knowledge holders and Community,
iii) align with existing guiding documents such as the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum, the National Prescribing Competency Framework, and Podiatry Accreditation Committee standards for entry level podiatry programs.
